8 Mile Rock

Rating: StarStarStarStarStar
Depth: 18m - 40m
Level: Advanced
Highlights: Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Leopard Sharks.

If you're not an advanced diver yet, now is the time to do it, because this is a top dive site, not to be missed! As its name implies, this dive site is 8 miles from Koh Lipe outside of the Marine Park, and close to the border of Malaysia. It is one of the furthest dive sites we visit, 80 minutes travelling time and offers world class diving.

The reef comprises of many submerged pinnacles with the main pinnacle starting at 16 meters depth and descending beyond 40 meters depth. 8 Mile Rock is one of the dive sites in our area were you are more likely to see Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. All species of marine life found in the south Andaman Sea can be found here making it a great feeding ground for pelagics (i.e. Barracuda and Trevally). Leopard sharks can be seen on practically every dive

The tops of the pinnacles are covered with colourful soft corals and sponges, where you can find an amazing variety of Moray Eels, Lionfish, Stonefish and Scorpionfish, Underwater photographers with a sharp eye will have a great time photographing the macro life on the pinnacles, and maybe you're lucky enough to photograph a Ghost Pipefish hiding amongst the corals.

Totally exposed in the middle of the ocean 8 Mile rock can only be dived on certain days of the month, due to strong tidal currents. The best time to dive is at half moon, so check your lunar calendar if you want to dive here. Because of the tidal currents and the depth of this dive site, we recommend that you are qualified as an advanced diver or have similar experience.

Adang Corner

Rating: StarStarStarStarStar
Depth: 5m - 20m
Level: Beginner / Advanced (depends on current)
Highlights: Expressway for drift diving, Turtles, Cuttle fish.

When the current is mild it is a really nice site for all levels, but on days with strong current, it will pick you up and speed you along the reef, an amazing experience.

Starting at the north of the island this reef stretches along the west coast all the way to the south of Koh Adang, too much to cover in one dive. Drift diving is the main attraction here as divers use the currents to propel them along this rich and vibrant reef. On these days you have a chance to see some big fish; even whale sharks have been spotted here. This reef has something to offer for every diver.

If you're not that experienced we start the dive a bit further down the reef where the current slows down. The reef habitats a wonderful variety of fish and corals, changing constantly between hard corals, soft corals and sponges as we swim along. You can find puffer fish, box fish, giant moray, lionfish, scorpion fish, cuttlefish and much more. A huge green turtle visits this area as well, so keep your eyes open.

Jabang

Rating: StarStarStarStarStar
Depth: 5m - 16m
Level: All
Highlights: Most species in one dive. Photographers paradise

Where else can you spot so many different species in one dive? Marine life is abundant and the soft corals in the shallow part of the site offer beautiful scenery in purple, pink and yellow. Suitable for all levels and paradise for photographers.

Only 20 minutes from Lipe a submerged rock formation offers excellent diving for all levels. Almost anything can be found here and in abundance too. Too much to name it all. Occasionally pelagics are attracted to the marine life hiding out here, such as giant barracudas and the rarely spotted sailfish. Although we could stay down here for hours, our air supply forces us to slowly ascend to the shallower part, where we find an amazing scenery. The top of the rock is covered in purple, pink and yellow soft corals. Make sure you've got some shots left on your camera.
